about

The ASI Lilla Spelmanslag was founded in 1993 to give young fiddlers the opportunity to learn how to play traditional Swedish fiddle music. These young musicians, aged 6 to 18, learn to play in the traditional style—by ear. However, listening recordings and sheet music are also often available for reference.

The Lilla Lag rehearses every Thursday from 5:45–6:45 p.m. at the American Swedish Institute (map) and performs frequently for many events in the community. We encourage parents to accompany their children, with their fiddles, to sit in on any of our practice sessions to see how their children would fit in. We ask that parents talk to one of the directors and discuss whether the child is ready to start playing with the group.

The Lilla Lag is led by Annika Spargo, a former "lilla-lagger" and an active member of the adult spelmanslag.
